Fish-Matsya | Madhubani Painting | A4 Frame

This framed A4 size Madhubani painting is inspired by the Indian Mythology. Fish is considered an important and auspicious motif in Hindu mythology as Lord Vishns’s first incarnation was a fish (Matsya). It is mentioned that Lord Vishnu transformed himself into a fish (Matsya) to save the world from the great flood. The story of the flood bears great resemblance with the story of Noah’s ark.  

They symbolize good luck, fertility, creation and transformation. Existence of fish means that all the elements of nature are in harmony, and so there is prosperity.

Art History - Madhubani, which by one account means Forest of Honey, is a region in Mithila region of Nepal and the northern part (Madhubani district) of Bihar. The Madhubani paintings is an ancient style of painting that originates 2500 years ago. Following the age-old methods of painting, the artist, till date, mixes cow-dung and rock-salt glue to the paints. While cow dung is used for the shine it imparts to the colored patches, glue helps the paint to bind well with the special handmade paper used for these paintings.
